It begins when we are children: “Why daddy?” “Why mommy?” We want to know the”why” behind decisions being made which impact us.
This does not change as we move into adulthood. As adults, we still want to know the “why” behind decisions being made – especially in the workplace where decisions are made which impact us.
Highly effective leaders are aware of this and intentionally and openly share the “why” behind the decisions they make. (One leader who I observe on a regular basis is the absolute best at this. She frequently makes a decision and then she says, “And let me tell you why.” Her approach of intentionally sharing the reasoning behind her decisions creates an atmosphere of openness and trust, it educates those on the team, and it creates buy-in for her decisions.)
Take the time to share the “Why” behind your decisions and your leadership will strengthen within your organization.
