With the 4th of July upon us, we should take time to reflect upon the importance and value of freedom and being free. Typically we reserve these thoughts when discussing our country. However, as leaders, we should also reflect upon ” freedom in the workplace ”. After all, the workplace is a microcosm of our country. The opportunity as the leader of your microcosm is that you can and should create an environment in which everyone is given equal opportunity to contribute.

A strong leader strives to create a workplace which allows each employee to contribute his/her talents, skills and interests in a manner which helps the organization grow its impact. Leaders should work tirelessly to create opportunity for every single employee:

- The opportunity to grow and learn.
- The opportunity to work as part of a team.
- The opportunity to learn from failures.
- The opportunity to contribute as much as one’s skills, talents and desires allow.
It is the leader’s responsibility to create a “land of opportunity” within his/her own organization.
