2. Align and organize team members

As a leader, you need team members to provide the expertise and do the work which is necessary to fulfill the vision and mission you have laid out for your organization.  In short, when it comes to getting the work done

People are your “Secret Sauce”!

To be most effective as a leader in pursuit of your goals, your responsibility is to align and organized your team in a manner which takes advantage of everyone’s skills, personalities, and workload.

  • Right People, Right Skills, Right Culture – Said differently by Jim Collins, “Get the right people in the right seat on the bus.”  Your responsibility as the leader is to hire the right people, who have the necessary skills, who buy into the organizational culture so that a team exists versus just having a group of individuals working together.
  • Complementary Skills and Personalities – (Notice I said “complementary” versus “complimentary”.) When forming and organizing your team, and realize that this is a never-ending process, you will be wise to include different skills and personalities so that the team will grow beyond the  capabilities of just the individuals.  Just as a fist is more powerful than five individual fingers, a team is more effective and engaged when you, the leader, is able to align and organize skills and personalities.
  • Work Aligns with the Priority – Give your team clarity as to the priority, and the work which will be completed will align with that priority.   If you provide no direction as to the priority of work, each person will make his/her own decision as to what is to be completed.

As a leader, a leader at any level and in any organization, you will be looked to by the employees/team members to organize  and align that team .

Go forth and lead!
