The next time you listen to someone speak of the organization, company or team they are leading, listen to whether they use the term “We” or “I” when discussing their work.
If they use “We”, then they are leading through the lens of the team and teamwork. If they use “I”, they are leading through the lens of themselves being the leader.
Subtle difference, but quite telling.
“We” makes it about the team. “I” makes it about the leader.
If you want to strengthen how people view you as a leader, use “We” much more than “I”.
